As every traveler to Mexico discovers, the nation is home to some of the world's most vibrant folk art. This sumptuous book, bursting with hundreds of bright, colorful illustrations, introduces 180 living artists from throughout Mexico who create remarkable works in clay, wood, metal, textiles, and stone that represent the pinnacle of their respective craft traditions.

From the painted clay figures and wooden animals of Oaxaca to the filigree jewelry of the Yucatan, the book describes the broad spectrum of folk art to be found in all of Mexico. Some of the featured artists are believed to be the sole surviving practitioners of their chosen craft. The book is an outgrowth of an ambitious project to support Mexico's folk art traditions established by the Fomento Cultural Banamex in Mexico City.
