  Diesel, A Bookstore in Brentwood is totally psyched to host The Aristocrats director Paul Provenza and celebrity photographer Dan Dion as they celebrate the publication of their collaborative look at pun-slingers and funny people, Satiristas: Comedians, Contrarians, Raconteurs & Vulgarians, on Tuesday, May 11 at 7pm. Paul Provenza is an actor, comedian and filmmaker who spent decades traveling the world as a stand-up while also working in both theater and television. After decades as a comic and actor, Provenza found a new calling as an interviewer of other stand-ups. His passion for the craft is evidenced by his 2005 directorial debut The Aristocrats (made with Penn Jilette) revered by many comedy fans for its hilarious filth and magical portrayal of the world's funniest people and their creative processes. Dan Dion is the world’s premier portrait photographer of comedians and comedic talent. As house photographer of the Punch Line, Cobb's Comedy Club, and legendary Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, he has access to the greatest touring performers of the day. His photos have been published in Rolling Stone, Time, Spin, Playboy, Entertainment Weekly, People, Vibe, and more than one hundred other publications. Independently, he seeks out the reclusive and media-shy, gaining trust by virtue of his revealing and respectful style. His work has been seen in hundreds of publications, and has spawned worldwide solo exhibitions from New York to Edinburgh to Sydney, and he is represented by the prestigious Fahey/Klein gallery in Los Angeles.

  Diesel, A Bookstore in Oakland is pleased to welcome Deborah Burnes to the store to discuss and sign her new book, Look Great, Live Green: Choosing Beauty Solutions That Are Planet-Safe and Budget-Smart, in which she explains that body care and eco-consciousness need not be mutually exclusive, on Tuesday, May 11 at 7pm. In Part I of this timely book, Deborah Burnes explains the historical roots of the search for beauty, and how it has led to a $60 billion cosmetics industry that misleads and confuses consumers on everything from product effectiveness to toxicity. In Part II, Burnes details options for buying natural and organic products in a range of budgets, with each graded on a "good," "better," or "best" scale in terms of chemical content and overall health impact. Part III discusses the positive effects chemical-free products have on overall health, and how those effects are expressed in the appearance of our skin. Part IV contains a wealth of facts, tips, and shortcuts to help consumers experience living green and enhancing personal beauty.
