Diesel, A Bookstore in Oakland welcomes editors and contributors from Beeswax and Monday Night magazines to the store to celebrate the launch of their new issues. The party will take place on Friday, November 16th at 7pm, and feature four readings: Beeswax will be represented by Hugh Behm-Steinberg and Diana Aehegma, and Monday Night by Sean Craven and Valerie Witte.Acclaimed local poet Hugh Behm-Steinberg is the author of Shy Green Fields (No Tell Books) and The Opposite of Work (JackLeg Press, forthcoming). Diana Aehegma grew up on the Big Island of Hawaii, and now lives in Oakland. She earned her MA and MFA in Creative Writing from SFSU, where she won the 2009 Ann Fields Poetry Prize. Sean Craven is a writer, artist, and performer working in Berkeley. He has written everything from animation scripts to confessional memoir to science fiction and horror, and appeared everywhere from the underground to the BBC. Valerie Witte received her MFA in Writing from the University of San Francisco. Her work has appeared in publications such as Eleven Eleven, VOLT, Letterbox, and Like Starlings. She is a member of the g.e. collective in San Francisco, the Bay Area Correspondence School, and Kelsey Street Press. Published annually by Oakland's Volta Press, Beeswax Magazine brings together the best in cutting-edge and cross-genre work from local, national, and international writers and artists. Each issue of Beeswax uses handmade elements such as letterpressed covers, hand-stitched bindings, and unique packaging, and each issue has its own featured visual artist. Monday Night is a journal of poetry and prose based in Oakland, publishing new work by new authors since 2001.
