Gerald Derloshon at Diesel Bookstore

Diesel, A Bookstore in Malibu welcomes local author Gerald Derloshon to the store to discuss and sign his new book, Little Man on Wheels: Surfing Legend Dewey Weber, on Sunday, October 14th at 3pm.

Little Man on Wheels tells the remarkable life story of Dewey Weber, surfing’s first superstar. Weber rose to popularity during the dawn of surf culture, which began in Eisenhower-era Southern California, and then spread globally through movies, music and fashion.

From Weber’s charismatic ascent to the top of the burgeoning 1960s surf industry, to his free-fall into alcoholism and financial ruin, Little Man On Wheels examines Weber’s enduring impact on the California lifestyle he popularized worldwide and how his legend endures.

With more than 100 images by surf photographers LeRoy Grannis, Guy Motil, Brian McStotts, and Steve Wilkings, Little Man On Wheels is as beautifully illustrated as it is riveting.

Gerald Derloshon was raised in Downey, California and began surfing at the age at 13. He remains active in the sport. His previous books include The Success Merchants and One for the Heart: The Biography of Pioneering Heart Surgeon Viking O. Bjork. A graduate of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, he was an accredited screenwriter on the 1981 feature film, The Legend of the Lone Ranger. Derloshon is currently Senior Director for Public Affairs at Pepperdine University near Malibu, a favorite surf break of his.
