Brentwood - James Greenberg discusses and signs "Roman Polanski"
Diesel, A Bookstore in Brentwood welcomes author James Greenberg to the store to discuss and sign his new book, Roman Polanski: A Retrospective, on Sunday, September 8th at 3pm.
Roman Polanski is one of the most influential and prolific directors of all time, and he has created some of the most enduring and varied film classics, among them: Rosemary's Baby, Chinatown, and The Pianist. His films have inspired entire generations of new directors (Wes Anderson, the Coen brothers, Wes Craven, and Daron Aronofsky among others). In Roman Polanski: A Retrospective, editor and film critic James Greenberg guides readers through a chronological tour of Polanski's films, from his first, the dark and unsettling Knife in the Water in 1962, to the recent social warfare comedy, Carnage in 2011. The book is chock full of more than 250 images, including behind-the-scenes photos from his sets, that highlight the illustrious, half-decade-long career of a director whose harrowing childhood, tragic loss, and controversy could fill volumes.
Roman Polanski: A Retrospective is being published in honor of the legendary director's 80th birthday. With a foreword by Polanski himself, it is the only book of its kind that he has ever particpated in.
James Greenberg is editor in chief of DGA Quarterly, the journal of the Directors Guild of America. A former film critic for Los Angeles magazine and Daily Variety, he has written for the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and Entertainment Weekly. He lives in Los Angeles.
