Oakland - 25th Anniversary Party

Oakland 25 Years

In 1989, DIESEL opened its doors for the very first time. Some of you may remember our first location, over where the World Market now stands in Emeryville. Some of you may remember how our next location, which we moved to a few years later and where we currently are, was once a bowling alley (we still have the pins and bowling balls to prove it!). Ever since, we’ve been opening wide our doors on College Avenue to welcome the fantastic book-loving community of Rockridge. For 25 years, we’ve met readers of all types, hosted authors unknown and bestselling, and watched young readers grow into adults passing their passion, in turn, on to children of their own. For 25 years we’ve done what we love and shared that love with you. After all, a bookstore is nothing without its community.

That's why now, in 2014, we want to celebrate, and we want you here with us!

In honor of 25 glorious years of bookselling, we’re having 25 hours of celebration, starting at 3pm on Friday, September 26th. Kicking off the party will be DIESEL’s time-honored tradition of pie and libations! But, of course, that’s not all. All new books will be 15% off! At 9pm, Avram Siegel & Mike Witcher join us again with another round of their fantastic bluegrass music series (cover charge $10).

On Saturday, the sales continue with all children’s books 15% off! We’ll have more food, drink, games, and prizes, and live music provided by the wonderful acoustic music group, Dodge’s Sundodgers. In the evening, step up to the open mic and drop your favorite prose or verse passage at our Literary Karaoke.

On Sunday, all used books will be 15% off, and we’ll be starting the day right with mimosas in the morning, and Siobhan Adcock discussing and signing her novel, The Barter.

Check out the full schedule of the day’s events below.

Now, we’ve been open for 25 years, and we want to be around for another 25. But it should come as no surprise that times are tough. So this is a celebration, as well as the beginning of a reaching out for help.

At this party we’ll be officially launching our IndieGoGo campaign. Click on the link to the right to see what we're asking, and watch the video from owners John & Alison. In addition, be sure to watch the testimonials from authors and customers, and check out the great thank you items we'll be giving out in return for your donations.
