Oakland - Michael Cho discusses and signs "Shoplifter"

Oakland Events

Michael Cho at Diesel BookstoreDiesel, A Bookstore in Oakland welcomes Michael Cho to the store to discuss and sign his debut graphic novel, Shoplifter, on Monday, September 29th at 7pm. Joining him in conversation will be editor Chip Kidd.

Corinna Parks always imagined writing a successful novel and leading the ideal life of an author. After graduation however, she moved to a big city and took a job at an advertising agency (to pay off her student loans). Somehow, now, she’s worked in the same office for five years, and the only thing she has written is copy. She longs for companionship other than her cat, she’s dissatisfied with her job, and she’s numbed by the monotony of a life experienced through a series of screens. Her only thrill, her way to feel more alive, comes whenever she shoplifts a magazine from the corner store near her apartment. She knows there must be something more to life, but the question is how to find it.

Michael Cho is an artist, designer and illustrator, well known for his inimitable Toronto cityscapes and offbeat superhero illustrations. One of his stories was included in The Best American Comics 2010 and his artwork is showcased in Rabindranath Maharaj’s The Amazing Absorbing Boy. Shoplifter is his first graphic novel. He lives in Toronto.
