Oakland - Poetry Flash with Diane Kirsten Martin & Lisa Gluskin Stonestreet 08/01/2010 3:00 pm
Diane Kirsten Martin's new book of poems is Conjugated Visits. Yusef Komunyakaa says, "The observed is clearly the crystal engine here, at the heart of Conjugated Visits; an urgent music moves each poem down the page with a calibrated knowingness that releases us to truth and wonderment." Her work has been widely published in literary journals and was included in Best New Poets 2005. Lisa Gluskin Stonestreet's first book of poems, Tulips, Water, Ash, was the winner of the 2009 Morse Poetry Prize, selected by Jean Valentine, who says in her introduction, "If there is one defining gift here, I think it is the poet's way of feeling and making art out of shifts of consciousness - often joined to the subtle and tender and bold poems about intimate life." Among her other honors are a Javits fellowship and a Phelan Award.
