Oakland - Poetry Flash with Kathleen Fraser and Laura Walker
Diesel, A Bookstore in Oakland presents another installment of the always excellent Poetry Flash, this time with Kathleen Fraser and Laura Walker, on Sunday, November 4th at 3pm.
Kathleen Fraser's new book of poems is movable TYYPE. Robert Glück says, "Kathleen Fraser never takes a shortcut. In movable TYYPE she asks again, What can a poem be and do?" Fraser has published fourteen poetry collections and seven limited-edition artists' books in collaboration with painters. She has also been a seminal influence in Bay Area poetry as director of The Poetry Center and founder of The American Poetry Archives at San Francisco State University, and co-founder and editor of HOW(ever), a journal of innovative poetry by women.
Laura Walker's new book of poems is Follow-Haswed. Kathleen Fraser says, "Laura Walker's poems take us directly to the prescient heart of poetry....Her poems begin at Follow and pull through to Haswed, [from Vol. VI of the Oxford English Dictionary], with precarious tipping forward into found meanings....This is an unforgettable book in the highest tradition of breakthrough art." Walker's previous collections are bird book, rimertown/an atlas, and swarm lure.
