Oakland - Publication Party for "The Disenchantments" with Nina LaCour 02/16/2012 7:00 pm
The Disenchantments tells the story of friends Colby and Bev, who have a long-standing pact: graduate, hit the road with Bev's band, and then spend the year wandering around Europe. But moments after the tour kicks off, Bev makes a shocking announcement: she's abandoning their plans - and Colby - to start college in the fall. But the show must go on, and The Disenchantments weave through the Pacific Northwest, playing in small towns and dingy venues, while Colby struggles to deal with Bev's already-growing distance and the most important question of all: what's next? Nina LaCour grew up in the Bay Area, and received her MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College in 2006. Her first novel, Hold Still, was published by Dutton in 2009. Hold Still is a William C. Morris Honor book, a Junior Library Guild selection, an ALA Best Book for Young Adults, and a Chicago Public Library’s Best of the Best Books of 2009. Nina won the 2009 Northern California Book Award for Children’s Literature and was featured in Publishers Weekly as a Flying Starts Author. She lives in Oakland with her wife, photographer Kristyn Stroble. Location:
