Diesel, A Bookstore in Oakland welcomes local author Sophie Littlefield to the store to celebrate the publication of her new novel, Garden of Stones, on Sunday, March 3rd at 3pm.
Garden of Stones tells the story of fourteen-year-old Lucy Takeda, whose childhood ends on December 7, 1941, the day Japan showered bombs on Pearl Harbor. From that moment on, she is no longer seen as American but Japanese — someone to regard with suspicion, anger and fear. Suddenly she is ostracized by her closest friends and taunted and bullied by classmates. In a matter of weeks Lucy and her mother, Miyako, are torn from their home in Los Angeles — their possessions and family business sold off for a fraction of their worth — and transported inland to the Manzanar internment camp with thousands of other Japanese-Americans.
Sophie Littlefield is an award-winning, bestselling, and highly-acclaimed author of novels for both teens and adults. She grew up in rural Missouri, attended college in Indiana, and now lives in Northern California, where she writes full time. Visit Sophie online at www.SophieLittlefield.com.
