Diesel, A Bookstore in Oakland welcomes Mary Otis, Catherine Brady, Pat Joseph, and Matthew Zapruder to the store to celebrate the release of ZYZZYVA: Winter 2013 on Thursday, February 6th at 7pm.
ZYZZYVA: Winter 2013, No. 99 is the most recent issue of the acclaimed San Francisco literary journal. Joining them is special guest (and friend of ZYZZYVA), poet Matthew Zapruder.
Catherine Brady is the author of the story collection The Mechanics of Falling & Other Stories (University of Nevada Press). Her second short story collection, Curled in the Bed of Love, was the co-winner of the 2002 Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction. Her work has appeared in Best American Short Stories 2004, and she is a professor at the MFA program at the University of San Francisco.
Patrick Joseph is the executive editor of California Magazine. He’s the editor of Moritz Thomsen’s World War II diary, and his work has appeared in VQR, the Atlantic, and Salon, among other publications.
Mary Otis is the author of the story collection Yes, Yes, Cherries (Tin House Books). Her stories and essays have appeared in Tin House, Santa Monica Review, Electric Literature, and Los Angeles Review of Books, among other publications. She is a fiction professor in the UC Riverside Low-Residency MFA Program, where she is part of the core faculty.
Matthew Zapruder is the author of four collections of poetry, including Sun Bear, forthcoming from Copper Canyon Press in 2014. The recipient of a 2011 Guggenheim Fellowship, he lives in Oakland, where he is an editor at Wave Books and a new member of the core faculty at the MFA program in creative writing at St. Mary’s College.
