Oakland - Poetry Flash with Matthew Zapruder, Steve Healey and Michael Earl Craig 10/24/2010 3:00 pm
Michael Earl Craig's new book of poems, his third, is Thin Kimono. James Tate says, "I like being in the world of Craig's poems. Anything can happen, and probably will, and it will affect me in small or large ways that I couldn't have imagined. The precision of their imagery keeps me reeling with delight." His previous books are Yes, Master and Can You Relax in My House. Steve Healey's second book of poems, 10 Mississippi receives this praise from Billy Collins: "Somehow Steve Healey has figured out a way to get a new sound out of the saxophone of English. Loopy, smart, eyebrow-raising, wiggy, and wildly entertaining belong in the string of modifiers that would try to describe this poet's amazing voice." Healey's first book is Earthling. He's been anthologized in Legitimate Dangers: American Poets of the New Century, and his criticism and essays have been published in Rain Taxi and elsewhere. Come on All You Ghosts is Matthew Zapruder's third book of poems. Library Journal says, "Zapruder's innovative style is provocative in its unusual juxtapositions of line, image and enjambments. . .Highly recommended." His previous books are American Linden and The Pajamaist, which won the William Carlos Williams Award from the Poetry Society of America and was honored by Library Journal as one of the top ten poetry volumes of 2006. Zapruder is also co-editor of Wave Books.
