Snippet of "Inherent Vice"
08.17.09 Snippet of Inherent Vice In a spaced-out, drug-damaged drawl (confirmed to be Pynchon himself!), we hear a voice narrating the opening pages of Inherent Vice. As the passages progress, a guitar previously buried in the background gradually creeps to the forefront, warbles and increases in intensity like the marijuana haze that envelopes our protagonist, private eye Doc Sportello. It's the end of an era. The free love of the 60s recedes and "paranoia creeps in with the L.A. fog."
-- Inherent Vice was published on August 4, 2009 by Penguin Press.
