Brentwood - Tuesday August 30th at 6:30 pm -Alexis Deutsch-Adler discusses and signs "I've Been Thinking".
Join us on Tuesday August 30th at 6:30 pm as we welcome Alexis Deutsch-Adler to the store to read from and sign I've Been Thinking.
In I’ve Been Thinking, Adler presents this chapbook with ten unique pieces, each a varietal of personal reportage complemented by her own artwork. In this unique collection of “pairings” (like food with wine) she creates vivid impressions of nature and humanitas, all of which offer glimpses of the enduring power of the human spirit in the face of life’s gifts, reversals and challenges.
I’ve Been Thinking includes “Model Ignacio” an original tale of a migrant worker arriving at the author’s art studio to model for a portrait. “Barbie Waves Goodbye” is a story of our times: the shifting values of girls who choose to bypass playing with dolls. “The Gift” speaks of life’s impermanence with a souvenir the author’s dog leaves at the doorstep.
Alexis Deutsch-Adler graduated in Journalism from the University of Southern California. She has attended the Summer Writers Institute at Washington University in St. Louis, and the Napa Valley Writers’ Conference. Adler has pursued different forms of storytelling including, flash fiction, autobiographical fiction and memoir. She has been published in such publications as Newsweek Magazine, Vine Leaves Press, and various art forums. For fifteen years her blog, My Muse (mymuse.typepad.com) continues to acutely observe the surprising passages of life’s ever winding corridors. Promoting literacy has always been a part of her public service, including founding and overseeing “One Book, One City Malibu” an annual campaign which invited the community to read a different title each year.
