Ann Telnaes reads and signs "Trump's ABC"
DIESEL, A Bookstore in Brentwood welcomes Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Ann Telnaes to the store to read and sign her picture book for adults Trump's ABC on Tuesday, February 13th at 6:30 pm. Joining her in conversation will be the acclaimed cartoonist for The New Yorker Bruce Eric Kaplan. Please note that this event will take place in the lower outdoor courtyard adjacent to our store.
One Clinton, two Bushes, and an Obama were mere warm-ups for a President who is truly worthy of Ann Telnaes' excoriating satirical skills. The election of Donald Trump has inspired the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist to chronicle the high points (or low points, if there's a difference) of his first six months in office. Written in a sing-songy rhyme and drawn in her beguilingly impeccable ink line, each page is a miniature critique and expose of Trump and his janissaries, poltroons, and dissemblers, illustrating his public policies, his personal defects, his ethical dysfunction, and the consequences of his Presidency on the lives of Americans in a format that is cleverly designed to reflect the commander-in-chief 's attention span and mental level.
Ann Telnaes creates editorial cartoons in various media - animation, visual essays, live sketches, and traditional print - for the Washington Post. She won the Pulitzer Prize in 2001 for her print cartoons and the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year for 2016. Telnaes’ print work was shown in a solo exhibition at the Great Hall in the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress in 2004. Her work has also been exhibited in Paris, Jerusalem, and Lisbon. She is the current president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists (AAEC) and is a member of the National Cartoonists Society (NCS).
