Independent Bookstore Day 2016
Independent Bookstore Day has gone national, but that doesn't mean it's not a special event for us here in Oakland! In addition to the amazing array of limited-edition items that will be on sale that day, we are filling the day's schedule with some special festivities.
10am -- Big Kid / Little Kid Juice Stand
Juice for the kids! Mimosas for the adults. Sugary "Good Morning" and "Welcome" for everybody.
10:30 -- Storybook Time + Crafts
Katie Hites, author of Winnie & Waldorf, will kick-off our new series of Saturday Morning Storybook Times!
2pm -- C.D. Wright Appreciation & Release Party
The poet C.D. Wright was taken from us far too early and suddenly. We will honor her and celebrate the release of her newest (and final) collection of poetry, ShallCross, with readings of her work by poetic peers such as Gillian Conoley, Joseph Lease, Dean Rader, and Kit Schluter. If you like, come prepared with your own favorite piece written by C.D. We want to hear to hear multiple voices speaking her words.
8:30 -- Movie Night: A Public Screening of Wise Blood
John Huston's 1979 film adaptation of Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood is every bit as weird and wonderful. We've been itching for a movie night at the store for a while, and we can think of no better occasion for the first one than Independent Bookstore Day. This will be a perfect way to cap your day of visiting the Bay Area's bookstores! Kick back. Have a drink. And get Southern Gothic! Katherine is threatening/promising an appropriate cocktail for the festivities.
