Oakland - Poetry Reading with Gloria Frym and Donna de la Perriere
Diesel, A Bookstore in Oakland welcomes local authors Gloria Frym and Donna de la Perriere to the store to read their work on Sunday, October 2nd at 3pm.
Gloria Frym's new book, Mind Over Matter, is, according to Paul Hoover, "a thoughtful meditation on poetry in our age of post-theory and reminds us that the authority of poetry has always been ours... I love this book for casting aside the postmodern clichés of poetry's limitation, preferring to see world and language in fresh relation." Donna de la Perriere's most recent book, Saint Erasure, came out in 2010. "Anyone who still wants to view experimentation as a purely intellectual exercise will be convinced otherwise by Donna de la Perriere's exquisite second collection. Under the threat or promise of erasure and at the edge of silence, the poet deftly leads us through a shifting, minimalist landscape" - Laura Mullen.
Gloria Frym was born in Brooklyn, grew up in Los Angeles, and spent many years in New Mexico. She lives in Berkeley and teaches at California College of the Arts. Donna de la Perriere teaches in the MFA and undergraduate creative writing programs at California College of the Arts and San Francisco State University and curates the Bay Area Poetry Marathon reading series.
