Oakland - Winter 2014 Cookbook Extravaganza
Diesel, A Bookstore in Oakland invites you to our Winter Cookbook Extravaganza on Sunday, December 7th at 1pm.
Yes, friends, the holidays are upon us once again, which means it's time for family, friends, and food. Lots and lots of food. As we all know, nothing else brings people together in quite the same way: we bond over flavors, we swap stories and recipes, and we sit back sated and sedated. Sure you've got your time-honored recipes and go-to dishes, but isn't it time to bring some fresh flavors to your table?
Come to our ever popular Winter Cookbook Extravaganza! Joining us this time to present their new cookbooks (and of course bring some excellent food) will be authors: Sara Deseran, Tony Gemignani, Kathleen Weber, Alice Medrich, and Tanya Holland!
Sara Deseran is the co-owner of Tacolicious with her husband, Joe Hargrave, and the author of the eponymous cookbook Tacolicious, as well as others. She is the editor-at-large of San Francisco magazine.
Tony Gemignani is the 2007 World Pizza Cup Champion (the first non-Neopolitan victor), and an eleven-time world champion in various cooking competitions. He is the owner of Tony's Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco's North Beach along with other pizzerias around the country, and the author of The Pizza Bible.
Kathleen Weber opened Della Fattoria in 1995 after years of obsessively baking bread at home. Some her first clients included The French Laundry and the Sonoma Mission Inn, which quickly put Della Fattoria on the map. In 2011, Bon Appetit named the bakery one of "America's 10 Best Bread Bakeries." The business has grown to include a cafe in downtown Petaluma and a stand at San Francisco's Ferry Plaza Market. Her new book is Della Fattoria Bread.
Dessert queen Alice Medrich has won more cookbook-of-the-year awards and best in the dessert and baking category awards than any other author. She received her formal training at the prestigious ecole Lenotre in France, and is widely credited with introducing the chocolate truffle to the United States when she began making and selling them at her influential Berkeley dessert shop, Cocolat. She is the author of the new cookbook Flavor Flours and many others.
Tanya Holland is the exceutive chef and owner of Brown Sugar Kitchen and B-Side BBQ in West Oakland, and the author of the cookbook Brown Sugar Kitchen. Her food is an interpretation of soul food, reflecting her African-American heritage and her formal training at La Varenne Ecole de Cuisine in France, as well as her general appreciation of a wide variety of cuisines.
